How old is the BlueFins club?

BlueFins was formed in mid 2002. After an eye-opening dragon boating experience in China, a group of ten IBM employees decided to formalise a team to compete in the local competitions. We wanted to build on the close bonds formed overseas and share our experiences with other paddlers in our local community.

How often do the BlueFins train?

All team members are encouraged to attend training twice a week. On-water training sessions are held on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings at 1 Bank Street, Pyrmont. Team members may also choose to take on additional land training to improve strength and fitness. There are no excuses for not coming to training... even if you're feeling a little under the weather after a huge Saturday night... just like the rest of us!

Is water training hard?

The first time can be quite straining on the body, especially since our coach (Ray) seems to have a cruel streak in him somewhere. We do recommend you come prepared for a vigorous, full body workout... expect to feel tension in all your muscles! Before and after each water training session, we do make sure everyone stretches, so that muscles don't get too sore after a session.

How often do the BlueFins race?

The Dragon Boat racing season runs over the Summer months starting early in September and finishing in April the following year. There are usually races every month - please check out this season's Race Schedule for more information.
