Twilight Series 8km

About the Twilight race:  This is a fun yet challenging 8km around the Island race.  The fit and the unfit can still achieve this race course.  There is a free after party with a $20 bistro meal voucher for the Newport Arms Hotel as well as trophies for all category winners.

Location:  Rowland Reserve, Pittwater Road, Bayview. 


Distance
8kms around the Island  - which Island – Beautiful Scotland Island.  If high winds are present it will be a race around the Bay and catch the flag

Heats/Finals
One off 8km race then off to the party / presentation at the Newport Arms Hotel.  2  Kalinya Street, Newport

Accommodation Options:
Newport Arms Hotel has motel style accommodation if you would like to make a night of it.  Phone 9997 4900 – Book early!
Newport Mirage Hotel (4 Star accommodation) is right next door to the Newport Arms Phone 9997 7011 – Book early!

Team Composition – as per the category definitions and race rules

Teams must have a minimum of 16 paddlers but preferably 20 as 8km is a long way + 1 drummer and 1 sweep.  If you do not have a full team, please advise us one week before the event of your numbers and we will combine you with another club.  Bei Loon will also have paddlers on hand to fill up boats.  If you have only  1 or 2 paddlers from your club who want to compete, they can join one of the LOVE BOATS. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. one week before the event and we will place them in a LOVE BOAT of other random paddlers.

Premier Mixed Crews     Maximum of 50% of male paddlers (excludes drummer and sweep)
Masters Mixed Crews    Maximum  of 50% of male paddlers (excludes drummer and sweep)
    All paddlers must be over 40 years (as of 01st June) drummer  and sweep can be   younger.   
Grand Masters Mixed Crews    Maximum  of 50% of male paddlers (excludes drummer and sweep)
    All paddlers must be over 50 years (as of 01st June) drummer  and sweep can be  younger.   
Breast Cancer Survivors    All paddlers must be breast cancer survivors
Regional Mixed     All paddlers must be from Regional NSW   (150km outside of Sydney)
Love Boats    Any combination of paddlers fomr any team mixed in – separate trophies for this division
Other categories by request!
   
Every team must use a DBNSW Accredited steerer Lvl 3 or above.  Steerers will be supplied if requested 24 hours before the event.

Bring your ID tags.

Races: 2:30 and 3:30pm start   Registration 2:00pm

Directions:

Rowland Reserve, Pittwater Road, Bayview.  

Drive to Mona Vale look for Church Point Sign – follow Pittwater Road through 2 roundabouts.  Bayview Gold Course is on the left about 1 km past there is a sign saying Rowalnd Reserve.  Parking is by coin machine or park outside on the surrounding streets for free.

Toilets and changing facility available in carpark.

Race Distances:

8kms for all categories

If there are high winds and it is unsafe to go around the Island, the course will be changed to a “around the bay and catch the flag race”

Boats:

1 set of fibreglass boats  Teams can nominate a 2:30 or 3:30 start “first to register”.

Paddles:

Only IDBF spec paddles (202a) will be accepted

Membership cards

Membership photo ID tags are issued upon membership payment to DBNSW and will be required at each DBNSW event.

Categories:

Premier Mixed, Masters Mixed, Grandmasters Mixed, Breast Cancer Survivors, Regional Mixed,  Love Boat.   Other categories on request!

 

Category Criteria:

All teams comprise a minimum 16 paddlers (plus drummer and sweep) to a maximum of 26 paddlers (including drummer and sweep)

We will be flexible and fill up or combine teams on request.

Rules of Racing

AusDBF Race Rules and Regulations with NSW local adaptions

 

Safety:

Sweeps are responsible for crew safety and must be familiar with DBNSW Inc safety guidelines (refer dbnsw website)   Weak or non-swimmers MUST wear a life vest.

 

Sweeps:

Must be Level 3 or above.  Sweeps and drummers from Bei Loon available.

 

First Aid:

St Johns First Aid  personal will be on duty

 

Prizes:

Trophy’s will be awarded to each category winner

 

Uniforms:

 

All teams must wear a distinguishable uniform (e.g. caps, t’shirts etc)

Clean-up:

 

All teams are requested to clean up their area at the end of the day.
