2 heats and 1 final (depending upon Category numbers)

TEAM COMPOSITION – as per the category definitions and race rules
All teams must have a minimum of 16 paddlers, 1 drummer and 1 sweep to a maximum of 20 paddlers, 4 reserves, 1 drummer, 1 sweep

Junior Mixed Crews

Maximum of 50% of male paddlers (excludes drummer and sweep)
All paddlers and drummer must be 12 – 18 years (as of competition day). Sweep can be over 18 years.

Junior Open Crews

Any gender. All paddlers and drummer must be 12 – 18 years (as of competition day).
Sweep can be over 18 years

Junior Women Crews

All female paddlers (must have a female drummer & sweep)
All paddlers and drummer must be 12 – 18 years (as of competition day). Sweep can be over 18 years.

Grand Masters Mixed Crews

Maximum of 50% male paddlers. All paddlers must be over 50 years (as of competition day). Drummer and sweep can be younger.

Premier Mixed Crews

Maximum of 50% male paddlers. Drummer/sweep can be either male or female

Premier Open Crews

Any gender

Premier Women Crews

All female paddlers (must have a female drummer & sweep)

Masters Open Crews

Any gender. All paddlers must be over 40 years (as of competition day). Drummer and sweep can be younger.

Masters Women Crews

All female paddlers. All paddlers must be over 40 years (as of competition day). Drummer and sweep can be younger.
Masters Mixed Crews Maximum of 50% male paddlers. All paddlers must be over 40 years (as of competition day). Drummer and
sweep can be younger.

Every team must use a DBNSW Accredited steerer. Steerers must have their names recorded by the Chief Marshall.
Note: The minimum level for steerers at Chinese New Year is a Level 3.

It is compulsory for all Team Members to wear current photo ID Membership cards.
Note - teams with 2 teams in the same category: teams can have up to 4 paddlers interchange between the 2 teams (includes drummer and steerer (same 4 people) i.e. 2 mixed teams).

Due to the popularity of this regatta, to qualify for entry, clubs/teams must have:

Sydney Metro - entered that category or division in at least 2 regattas prior to Chinese New Year during the season including number of teams per category and division

Regional – entered that category or division in at least 1 DBNSW sanctioned regatta prior to Chinese New Year during the season and number of teams per category and division

Note: (1) Additional teams will only be considered once all teams have been confirmed (and if there is space left to fill)
(2) Combined teams will only be considered once all teams have been confirmed (and if there is space left to fill)

Date Saturday 4 February, 2012

Time Races: 8:00am – 5:00pm

Team Captains’ Briefing: 7:00am - at the finish line

Location - Cockle Bay, Darling Harbour

Site Facilities - Teams are not permitted to bring their own tents; they must use what is provided by the organisers.

Teams are not permitted to bring alcohol onto the site or it will be confiscated by the rangers.

Race Schedule - TBA

Race Distances - 240 metres (approximately) for all categories
Boats 2 sets of 6 fibreglass boats (IDBF spec matching boats)
Paddles Only IDBF spec paddles (202a) will be accepted

Membership Cards - Membership photo ID tags are issued upon membership payment to DBNSW and will be required at each
DBNSW event

Categories - Premier Open, Premier Women’s, Masters Open, Masters Women’s, Junior Mixed, Junior Open, Junior Women, Grand Masters Mixed

Qualifying for Finals - Points are allocated on placings in heat results and added together to form finals qualifications. If more
than 6 teams qualify, the times of teams on equal points will be added to identify the 6 fastest qualifying teams.

Rules of Racing - AusDBF Race Rules and Regulations with NSW by-laws

Safety
(1) This regatta is a DBNSW event and DBNSW will appoint a Regatta Safety Officer to advise the Chief
Race Official on all matters relating to the safety of participants, officials, spectators and others
present at the venue. The name of the Regatta Safety Officer will be advised at the Team Captains'
briefing at the commencement of racing. Adherence to safety-related instructions from either the
Regatta Safety Officer or the Chief Race Official is mandatory
(2) Nothing in (1) above:

a. removes the responsibility for Clubs to do all in their power to ensure the safety of
participants, officials, spectators and others present at the venue - safety is everyone's
responsibility; and
b. affects the right of Clubs and Sweeps to adopt a more risk averse approach to specific situations, nor does it affect the responsibilities of the sweep for the safety of his or her crew.

Sweeps - Minimum standard is Level 3 steerer for Chinese New Year and Darling Harbour
First Aid - St Johns First Aid personnel will be on duty
Clean-up - All teams are requested to clean up their area at the end of the day
Security - Teams are responsible for the security of their valuables – BE WARY

Alcohol Darling Harbour is not an alcohol free zone, however alcohol and water sports don’t mix. If any paddler/crew is found to be intoxicated or drinking alcohol during competition, it will be at the discretion of the officials to disqualify the entire team from further competition for the remainder of the day
